When Miguel Needed Help, LandAjob Was There

Miguel Perez was kind of in a quandary. His disability prevented him from working, and he was having trouble getting help from Social Security.
“I hired someone to help me after I got rejected twice,” said Perez, 63, a Corpus Christi, TX. resident. “You don’t get a lot of money to live on.”
Perez’s situation changed when he found about LandAjob and signed up for the program, which help you get up to $13,000 in job-related expenses. LandAjob also has a database of more than 600,000 jobs and works with you to find a job. For more information, go to www.landajob.org.
“I didn’t know anything about LandAjob,” he said. “They contacted me, and I was able to get a lot of money for expenses. I thank them for that.”
Perez describes himself as “being kind of old fashioned,” and “not computer literate,) but that didn’t prevent him from being able to be helped by LandAjob. In fact, he says there is nothing that should keep people from working with LandAjob,
“I would recommend it to everyone,” said Perez. “I never had any issues with anyone there. You all have a very good staff; everyone is very friendly. They walked me through everything. “
Being able to connect with someone has been a big plus for him.
“(LandAjob’s) Kristy (Chouset) has helped me the most,” said Perez. “She is very friendly. I call her and punch in your extension, and if she’s busy, she always calls me right back.”
Perez was able to get work at a Naval facility near his home where he is responsible for making deliveries to the sites.
“I drive around,” he said. “I have a cargo van holding supplies for the workers.”
When he isn’t busy working, Perez is a big sports fan, especially for the Houston Astros, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Rockets, and San Antonio Spurs. His friend runs bus tours to sports events, and Perez makes sure he is aboard.
“I’ve gone several times and he’s got big tour bus,” he said. “With the Cowboys, we stay overnight. I like Astros and the Rockets when they had Hakeem Olajuwon and the Spurs with David Robbins and Tim Duncan.”
Living on the water in Corpus Christi, Perez can also be found with a fishing rod in his hands.
“I like saltwater fishing in the Gulf Coast,” he said.
(LandAjob helps Americans with disabilities get cash reimbursements for work expenses of up to $13,000 over three to five years. Resources are also offered to beneficiaries seeking a job. For information, go to www.landajob.org.)
